Crafting Wellness at Nellis Architecture: A Year of Reflection and Growth
January 31, 2025
At Nellis Architecture, our mission is designing spaces with meaning. ‘Meaningful’ is something that holds significance, purpose, and value. What we design for our clients, equally applies to our team culture
The Fabric of Team Wellness
One of the proudest achievements of the past year has been cultivating a team dynamic that prioritizes genuine connection
We believe that, creating an ecosystem of mutual respect and camaraderie is extremely important, if we want everyone to be engaged, and actively involved in our cultural initiatives.
Our team members don’t just work together, and their relationships extend beyond the office walls. From team-building activities held during work hours (because weekends are sacred) to supporting those new to the UAE as they navigate life in a different country, our focus has been on creating a workplace that feels like a community. For some, this means attending art festivals or networking events together; for others, it’s as simple as being that support system until they find their feet in Dubai. This approach has become an essential part of who we are.
Work-Life Harmony
Work-life balance isn’t just a buzzword for us; it’s non-negotiable.
We want to ensure that overtime is a rare exception, not a rule. We want our team to live their lives fully, cherishing time with family, pets, and passions outside of work. Our office location remains a deliberate choice, to make sure that it is the most convenient for everyone, with access to outdoor spaces, groceries, restaurants, and affordable parking. It’s always about what’s best for the well-being of our people, and rarely about the appearance.
When we do spend time together as a team, the atmosphere is intentionally crafted to inspire and rejuvenate, not drain.
Creative people thrive on inspiration, not routine.
That’s why we’re rethinking how we approach team-building events and professional development in 2025. Going for drinks isn’t enough; we’re focusing on activities that spark creativity and offer fresh perspectives. From local and global design events to architectural trips within the UAE and internationally, we’re investing in experiences that remind our team why they fell in love with architecture in the first place. In his book My Story, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emphasizes the importance of leadership focused not only on progress, but also on the well-being of people. This inspires us to integrate wellness into every team initiative we undertake.
Designing Wellness for Tomorrow
As we look forward, we’re encouraged by how wellness transcends the walls of our office. We see it in the larger architectural trends shaping our designs: creating spaces that harmonize with nature, prioritize outdoor living even in climates like Dubai’s, and bring intentionality to every element. Increasingly, our clients are requesting designs that integrate well-being into their homes. From spa-like basements featuring gyms, meditation rooms, cold plunge pools, and ice baths, to spaces that incorporate greenery and natural elements, wellness is becoming a central theme in the way we design. These requests are particularly prominent in the Middle East, where the climate makes indoor wellness spaces a necessity.
The year ahead is brimming with potential, and wellness will remain at the heart of everything we do.
Because at Nellis Architecture, we don’t just build structures; we create spaces and cultures that inspire and touch the human spirit.
